The FD RX7 is already a pretty rare sight to see unless you frequent the suburban Cars & Coffee circuit. Even more rare, is a right hand drive imported RX7 built in Japan by none other than “FAMspeed”.

The Famspeed RX7’s were specced and built as drivers cars to compete. It is typical for any track or race cars paintwork to be neglected and of low priority. Pair this with the fact that Japan has water restrictions for washing and upkeep, it was not surprising to find this paintwork in a sorry state.

This specific example had some panels finished with clear coat and others in single-stage paint. To make things even more interesting, some areas like the rear bumper were clear coated in the middle, and the sides were single.

Even with its challenges, the paintwork came back to life to display a beautiful finish that would make anyone think it was an all original street car. We protected our work with a 3-year ceramic coating by Gyeon so the delicate paintwork can be easily and safely washed.
